More things that make me want to puke: We've all heard about the spy plane that crashed into a Chinese fighter jet a little while ago. The media goes on and on about how the Chinese government is making itself look bad, that they're living in the past, mired in a culture of victimhood, etc. Only once did I hear an account of what actually goes on in the south China Sea, and what the United States calls a "routine exercise." We put a spy plane up just outside their air space, and then we scramble some fighters to fly directly at China. China thinks they're about to be attacked, and they put some fighters in the air. Our fighter planes veer off at the last minute, and the spy plane monitors radio signals to see what the Chinese did. We do this again and again, sometime several times a week.
This is one of those situations that just makes me drop my jaw and think "You FUCKING ASSHOLES!" Of course China is pissed off. What would the U.S. do if fighter jets came screaming at our borders, missile caps blown off, looking like they were going to hit Los Angeles. We'd shoot them down. It's like going up to the biggest, meanest looking guy in the ghetto, who happens to be holding a machine gun, and pretending to hit him in the face again and again and saying "Ha! Made you flinch!" What do you think is going to happen?
Why do we have to continue to push and prod with our military everywhere in the world? Why do we waste billions and billions of dollars playing macho school bully all over the world? I think it's because our leaders and the corporations that own them don't have a clue what to do here, and they need to make up for it some how. This situation is total shit, and needs to be stopped right now.
Why do we have stealth bombers? There is NO tactical reason to have a plane that can avoid radar and drop a few bombs after an expensive flight. What good does avoiding radar do when Serbian thugs can shoot a one billion dollar plane from the air with a $100.00 grenade launcher? Despite the fact that stealth bombers are patently immoral and everyone involved in the manufacture, use or general acceptance of them is guilty of murder, they make no tactical sense. A cruise missile can do the same thing, and costs a million dollars. You get 1000 cruise missiles for one stealth bomber! The simple fact is that the people involved, General Electric, Boeing, the government, are scared of the world and of us the people, and they need ever more terrifying and wasteful machines to feel secure.
Why do we maintain an arsenal of thousands of nuclear missiles? There has never been and never will be ANY situation in which a nuclear weapon does any good. Even in the bombing of Japan, the U.S. murdered hundreds of thousands of civilians (and a lot of U.S. p.o.w.'s) to prove how tough it was. Japan was ready to surrender. Nuclear weapons are only good for destroying whole cities and leaving them poisoned and crushed for good. There is no point in any war where that makes sense. Imagine that the U.S. was invaded. What good would blowing up Shanghai do? NONE. If you think otherwise, you are just wrong, and an idiot. Instead, we have a country littered with terrifying machines made from the deadliest substance known to man, wasting billions of dollars, and directly taking money from the poor, the underprivileged and the weak.
As long as we keep up this attitude, we will have more run ins with countries like China, countries that may or may not be as evil as we are, but countries that we are constantly prodding and poking to see if they'll respond. Some day, maybe one will. They won't declare war, they won't shoot down our planes, they will just sneak anthrax into New York city. While we wait for that to happen, urged on by the government that we are forced to pay for, the police are still shooting poor people in the back, we're still putting more people in prison than ANY other country, and the companies are continuing to turn our world into toxic ash.
